Many people think that winter isn't the best time to sell because gardens are dormant and often muddy, the days are dark and it is feels like hibernation time. However, this definitely isn't the case and winter can actually be the best time to showcase the benefits of your property.

Why sell now?
Less competition means your property will stand out to serious buyers actively searching to buy now, and with Spring listings on the horizon, you can beat the rush and sell on your terms.

Winter Selling Tips
In March, we shared the importance of first impressions and why they count. Whilst buyers will buy in winter because they need to, you can help to make your property unforgettable by making them feel warm and welcome with some easy inclusions and personal touches.

  • Get the light right! Shorter days mean good, warm temperature lighting is essential. Consider switching from ‘cool white’ to ‘warm white’ light globes which add a subtle comfort tone, open all the curtains, turn on lamps, and if needed, borrow or buy some additional lamps to light up dark spaces.
  • Add cosy comfort. Winter is a time for hibernation. Whilst many people don’t have that luxury, you can create the atmosphere of calm, comfortable spaces with knitted blankets and throws, some cosy cushions, and light the fire if you have a combustion fireplace.
  • Showcase winter functionality. Make sure potential buyers feel how well your property handles cooler weather. Highlighting wood storage space or facilities, good insulation, bathroom heat lamps or underfloor heating if these are features of the home. And don’t forget to place door mats at the front and back door to trap dirt, dust and debris before buyers enter your home.
  • Scents and sounds: Ensure your house is aired shortly before your inspections and prior to switching the heating on as stale air can be a turn off. Soft acoustic music and a lightly scented candle or fresh linen can also help to set a welcoming tone.

These simple techniques don't have to cost the earth. Items can be borrowed or purchased second hand, or you can invest in a two or three special pieces which will follow you to your new property.
